In this course, students dive into myths from around the world to understand what
different cultures believed and why those stories still matter today. They analyze heroes,
monsters, and archetypes through readings, media, and research projects. Students also
complete meaningful research to explore where myths come from, what they mean in
their cultures, and how they continue to influence books, movies, and everyday language.

This course will focus on instruction and practice in researching, composing, and
delivering formal and informal speeches in a variety of public contexts. Representative
topics include: ethics in public speaking; listening; library research; outlining; delivery;
writing in an oral style; evaluation of public address; and analyzing and adapting to
audiences. The course emphasizes informative and persuasive speaking. Students may
earn COM 115 Fundamentals of Public Speaking dual credit upon successful completion

This is an online course. Creative Writing is a semester-long English elective for students
in grades 11-12. The course provides instruction and practice in analyzing, critiquing, and
composing a variety of creative texts, including personal essays, memoirs, short stories,
and poetry. Students study published works as both readers and writers to understand
authorial choices and purpose, while developing their own writing process and unique
voice. The course is conducted in a workshop format, emphasizing peer collaboration,
discussion, drafting, revision, and editing. Students receive 0.5 English credit per
semester, which may count toward the fourth-year English requirement for up to two
semesters. After two semesters, additional enrollments may be taken with instructor
approval, but will count as general elective credit rather than English credit.
